Session 0105 - The Music of Miami Vice (Airdate: 2/5/23)

We took a deep dive into the world of one of TV's most influential shows - Miami Vice. For those who weren't there to see it, it's tough to overstate the show's influence on pop culture at the time, and its legacy endures even to this day. Musically, the show was all over the place in the best possible way, featuring songs from just about every genre from punk to country and everything in between. This playlist represents a small sampling.

Just a programming note: we try to keep the show as Eagles-free as possible; however, due to Glenn Frey's frequent appearances on the show (both on the soundtrack and in front of the camera) we found ourselves in the unfortunate position of having to give him a double shot. We regret the circumstance, and will endeavor to do better in the future.

Auto Reverse returned from winter break with some unfortunate news; legendary Specials frontman Terry Hall had passed away. We did a Two-Tone mini-set in the middle of the evening, featuring some great ska hits. We also learned late about the death of Tom Verlaine, frontman of the influential New York band Television, and closed out the show with a mini-tribute to him as well. So many tributes!

On the brighter side, this was our first episode featuring new co-host Keith, who selected a few great tracks (*) and would go on to make key contributions throughout the season.

This session saw the show take its first dip into radio gimmickry, with the famed "double shot." It proved to be a popular show, so it's become a mainstay of Auto Reverse's programming. This week's playlist is a pretty good mix of essential tracks, all-time classics, and unearthed gems.

Karalyn McKeon joined us this week as our first ever guest. She chose the entire night's playlist - plenty of stuff I would have chosen eventually, and a few great songs I never knew existed!
